REQ: Hovercraft, Southampton
« on: June 11, 2013, 01:54:14 PM »
Hi All

I winder if someone could help me identify the Canadian Coast Guards Hovercraft on the slip at Griffon Hovercraft please? I saw her there yesterday alongside H193 which I believe is Indian.
On the fan of the Canadian vessel was printed CFN 6498.

Many thanks

Gordon

Canadian Coastguard appear to only have 2 hovercraft Mamilossa and Sipu Muin. See http://www.marinfo.gc.ca/en/anotresujet/flotte.asp . I have photographed Mamilossa and that is CFN 5305 so I guess 6498 is Sipu Muin.
Have subsequently found if you Google CCGS Sipu Muin there are videos etc. You might spot the number.

Sorry chaps - have a look at FleetMon and you will see that Sipu Muin (callsign CHCGA) is currently at Trois Rivieres, CA this evening! (Wednesday 19th June)
If you also look closely at the one at Merlin Quay, until recently at least, she still hadn't had her skirt fitted as she is still in build.

She has come up on AIS on occasions,so when she does start test flights, hopefully we will get to know about it!

Hopefully someone will be able to provide further information in due course.

The new Canadian Hovercraft is NOW FLYING - Friday 12th, 16:40. It has left it's maker yard on the River Itchen, flown down as far as the Weston Shelf in Southampton Water (traditional hovercraft testing area :) since the 1960's) but is now heading back towards the River Itchen
