Planning a biggish trip!
« on: March 08, 2013, 06:16:39 PM »
Although I do some work as a shipping journo and make quite a lot of video about ships and shipping, I haven't travelled far aboard commercial vessels - very long distances aboard yachts, but that is a different story.

So this year, I'd like to do a longer trip, perhaps aboard a freighter. I don't have a great deal of money, so I'm probably looking at something between a couple of weeks and a month, and I wouldn't mind changing ships once or twice.

There's an agent in this country who look as if they charge around

There used to be a good agent in Switzerland. Can't remember the details just now but I will bet Cornelia will know.
Try this one: http://www.freightervoyages.eu/Routes.htm
Or how about Southampton Hong Kong and back with CMA CGM?
45 days 4 thousand quid!

Hello,

I have booked most of my journeys at www.zylmann.de (also website in English) or at
http://frachtschiffreisen-pfeiffer.de/

Both speak English as well and have done many trips by themselfes. You can choose a trip from their list, please take time to explore, there are many trips to do. If you do not find anything suitable for you, despite looking carefully, you can write them of course and ask. Schedules in the voyage descriptions start very often at Hamburg and Rotterdam, this is because their customers mostly come from Germany. As we all know, ships call at many ports, so it is as worth to ask, whether you can for example start your trip at Felixtowe etc.

Prices vary, depending on the ship, depending on the route, from 80 Euros to around 100 Euros.

I hope, you find something and I bet, you'll enjoy it   ;D

Tahnks, both - the prices with these agents seem much better than the UK based agents, and there are some UK departures.

I think something to S America would be interesting!

How about 55 nights, Bremerhaven to 7 or 8 South American ports, including 2 Panama Canal transits, for a quid!
I think they may have slightly slipped up:

I think, even if you do not see UK departures on the agencies schedule you can write them and ask, and they will arrange a round trip for someone based in UK differently than for someone from Hamburg.

I wish y ou good luck and I REALLY hope for a voyage report with many photos ! I would like to do a longer trip myself, longest I done was from Montreal to Liverpool and Antwerp, and from Hamburg to Canary islands, however I do not like the south at all, as I really avoid temperatures that are warmer than 16
