Help in the ship identification
« on: January 23, 2013, 12:08:16 PM »
Gents, some divers in Russia raised in 2002-2004 ship's bell with "Die Woche" name on it:

It was raised approximately here:

(Cola peninsula, near Russian-Norwegian border)
Looks like this was some german ship. Probable size maybe around 200-400 BRT.
There is no any other signs/marks on this bell. They tried to get information from Hamburg maritime museum, but got only formal reply.
Any idea how to identify the vessel?

"Die Woche" translates as "The Week" and that's a strange name for a ship. It's certainly German, but could be anything, especially taking WW II losses into account. Any other details on the wreck ?

What are the dimensions of the bell?
Is the material confirmed?  Any photo of the inside?

Possibly German owner naming vessel after a newspaper?  Owner's yacht?
Just ideas.
