Hanjin Heavy Industries orderbook?
« on: January 21, 2013, 12:44:26 PM »
Hi all,

While browsing the orderbook for South Korean yards, I noticed that Hanjin Heavy Industries has next to no orderbook left. The only thing I found was a three-ship order for 6,500 TEU containerships by Danaos for charter to Yang Ming. (YM MODERNITY/MOTHERHOOD/MAJESTY). I wonder if these ships will even be delivered at all? The order was already placed in 2007.

What happened with Hanjin? Did they shift vessel production entirely to their Subic site in the Philippines? Did they move into offshore structures instead of ships? (Offshore structures are not included in the BRL Database that I use).

Thanks for your help in advance!

Brgds.
Ralph

Seems they more or less closed shop in Korea and shifted production to Subic:

Ralph,

The Danaos containership orders were cancelled some time ago. As you surmised, all of Hanjin's merchant shipbuilding activity was transferred to their Subic Bay facility. Some non-merchant ship building and fabrication work is still undertaken at Busan.

Phil

Thanks Phil for confirming that. I already treat those orderbook databases with some suspicion, and rightly so, it seems  ;)
