Carisbrooke Ships for sale
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:08:01 AM »
Hello , I was wondering if anybody knew why the two Carisbrooke ships that are laid up in Hull are up for auction by the Admiralty Marshal, I understand there are a couple for over in Holland.

Cheers

It seems that the owner, Carisbrooke BV (Netherlands) owes ING bank almost 5 Million Euros.

I read somewhere that Carisbrooke BV are a separate organisation to the Cowes setup. Certainly hope so.

At this moment there are 2 ex Carisbrooke ships laid up in Rotterdam.

The Heather C is renamed Heat
The Mirjam C is renamed Irj

All two ships are Bankrupt and I thought they will be sold on 6 February 2013.
At this moment they are currently managed by Stieglis Shipbrokers in Holland.

Regards, Kees

hum!!!

They all seem to be a series of 8,000 DWT Chinese built bulkers..
I wonder If they were Dutch built ships...Would they have a better re sale or be more desirable..??

Maybe buying in China is a false economy ???  I wonder.

Will ship owners buy more Euro built tonnage, in future???
Hopefully ship owners will wake up and support European shipyards.. :)

This has nothing to do with them being Chinese built ships nor is Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd. in trouble.

These ships were financed by a Dutch C.V. system - similar to a German K.G. - and it is the C.V. companies which have failed. Carisbrooke were merely the ships' managers.

ozzy76,
I had a tour of the Bridge and E/R,of a 12000 dwt vsl,MAK main engine Man Auxs, built by I, believe Jiangsu under Dutch Supervision, the ship was beautifull, we have all heard the stories Rice farmer by day Welder in Shipyard all night, the welds on the deck were superb.
What the ship will look like in 10 yrs who no,s .
Phil seems to have good info that Carisbrooke is not in trouble, thats good news

Hi Ian..

Am glad Carrisbrooke is doing well... I see their ships on here and they certainly are World traders...It seems this is nothing to do with them...These lay ups.
As for my comment regarding Chinese built ships...Well I'm sure it has been the subject of many debates on here...But my comments were mainly trying to put some hope onto European shipbuilding industry..I remember when ships of these types were made in Holland..Or at least the Dutch "seemed" to have a large market share of these mini bulkers and feeder containers..
That was my experience...anyhow,,,Most of the ships I was on were Dutch built ;D

My only other experience was on the Korean built "GOSPORT MAERSK" built in 2000 in Korea, Hyundai.
I remember the 3rd Engineer was testing the explosion doors on the MAN B&W, 2 stroke Main Engine..There was a special tool used to Jack these up( the explosion doors )and inspect them...Well this tool consisted of a threaded bar about an inch thickness in diameter...Well I saw the Threads being stripped off that steel...And it made me wonder, What quality the rest of the steel was??  Just a small example..But I guess that's what happens when you build to a price and not a Standard...And that was a Korean ship...
