Shipspotting Areas for Melbourne and Geelong
« on: December 29, 2012, 08:01:23 AM »
I am going to the Avalon Air Show next year (01/03/2013- 03/03/2013). I have a couple of free days and would like to do some shipspotting while I'm in Melbourne.  Can anyone recommend a good place to take photos of ships arriving or departing?

Aaron, I suggest you take the ferry from Southbank in the Melbourns CBD to Williamstown, and return the same way after a stop over.  As well as ships on the Yarra River, others in the container docks can be seen.  From Williamstown, it is only a short walk to a viewpoint over Port Phillip Bay.

Check the timetable for the days you will be there at http://www.williamstownferries.com.au/

Enjoy your visit

Best regards
Clyde

Also if cruise ships are your thing, take a route 109 tram from City (Collins Street) to its Beacon Cove terminus, thence it's a short walk towards Station Pier: both cruise ships "Pacific Pearl" and "Amadea" are scheduled to arrive at Station Pier on Sat 1/3/2013 at 0800.
