MERSINA & RECRUIT hit by ship at Gravesend in fog
« on: December 18, 2012, 10:44:14 PM »
It appears lots of people are saying that Mersina and Recruit were hit by a ship in fog last week at Gravesend on there moorings ans one of the two is badly damaged .   One of the two is on Denton Slipway.

Can anyone get a shot?
Regards
Ben

Hi Ben,

Are you sure it was last week? Back in mid-November the PLA had this on their website:

"At 6.00 am this morning the bulk carrier Amber, leaving Tilbury Power Station suffered engine failure. The vessel subsequently went aground upstream of the PLA

Hi Ken

I understand if you drive round to where the ship and lobster pub is , but take a left by the scrapyard and follow that road to the end you'll come to the slipway gates.  You should be able to get a photo from there. I may try Sunday

Ken, Ben,
Be carefull if you venture off the beaten track in that area by the scrapyards etc. Or at least look out for guard dogs let off the leash and such like. I found it to be a bit of a dodgey area when I walked down there a couple of years back.

Hi Ken/John

Really?

Ken did you have any trouble yesterday? Could you see either tug from where you were and where did you get the info from as ive heard mixed reports. Most people are saying Mersina is the one thats badly damaged?

also whilst on the subject of gravesend.  Is that little ex navy coaster still rusting away just below the slipway there?

I know the one you mean but can't think of the name. Phil English has a good picture of her on here. She disappeared a couple of years back but not sure what happened to her. Most likely scrapped as her back was broken anyway.

Thanks John I assumed that would be the case.

Any luck getting near the slipway yet?
