Unbelievable saga! Government of Canada tows vessel considered too toxic to scrap out to international waters, and sets it adrift. Thankfully there was no incident!!

Beacon Activated on Lyubov Orlova
Saturday , March 9 2013

VOCM News

An emergency beacon activated on the Lyubov Orlova indicates the derelict vessel is about 1,100 kilometres from St. John's. The former Russian cruise ship has been drifting in the North Atlantic for more than a month after it broke loose of a tug just outside the Narrows, on its way to the Dominican Republic to be scrapped.

A DFO spokesperson says the emergency position indicating rescue beacon, or EPIRB, which activates when it touches salt water, turned on yesterday morning. She could not say whether the empty ship was still afloat.

Hi.. Do we have any news about "Lyubov Orlova ghost ship"?
I read that it might be on its way north United Kingdom, but the day after they wrote it might have sunk.. Is there any news?

I found this article, but I don't know how to translate it.
http://www.ruv.is/frett/ljubof-orlova-enn-ofundin

I don't know any Icelandic, but it seems to be a confirmation that the "report" on April 1st was an Aprils Fools joke.
