Phil
I talk about the UBC Salaverry, rough 33000 tdw and the UBC Sacramento ,rough 31500 tdw,
and I state that this one is a little smaller then those two.
Did I get it wrong somewhere ?

Sorry Capt. I misunderstood. I assumed you were talking of a particular ship being 4,000 dwt, not the DIFFERENCE in size being 4,000 dwt  :D

She hit a Buoy after leaving the harbour of IJmuiden. The chain of this buoy got entangled in her propeller.

hi fred
Ijmuiden has strong sideways pushing tides when one comes out of the breakwater
when you approach the buoys, they appear to be clear, but a lot people don,t realize
in such situations that the vessel does not only move foward but also sideways and
when this is not seen or attended to in the course setting upfront, one can come awfully
close to the buoys. The really bad part is,,, that when they see that the passing is tight, will say on a stbside buoy they change too late to port. When then it become evident that they will touch the buoy with the stb side,,then they give hard port !!!! and go full into the buoy.
Hard starboard would actully get the stern away from the buoy.
