SKS Tankers of Norway
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:39:21 PM »
Does anyone know what the 'SKS' stand for ? I have some recollection that it may be from a Pool of tankers some years ago comprising Sovcomflot / Klaveness and Sinotrans but that would leave the Jebsen Group, her current owner, out of the loop.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated .

Hi Peter

SKS today as no meaning as such it is a trade name. The origin was in 1991 as a pool of 10 OBO ; Sovecomflot (7), Kristian Gerhard Jebsen (1) and Sinochem (2). The pool was opeated by Pelican Shipping in London. This pool disbanded in 1995 . The SKS name continued with Kristian Gerhard Jebsen. The "new" fleet started in 1996 and is currently 12 OBOs, 10 LR2 tankers and 7 suezmax. Since 2010 all operations have been run from Bergen.
