Reported that will be towed to Germany for engine reactivation, then sail on her own for scrap.  But let's see!
That was first reported but latest I've read is that it would be too expensive to repair her engines, I guess we will have to wait and see. Chances are she's going to Aliaga as the Suez Canal does not allow ships under tow (or so I've read).

Kind regards
Cedric

I agree with you Cedric, that's most likely.  Also perhaps to high-profile a ship/company for a scrapping any further east - would be clearly affected by EU rules.  In the next day or so EIDE FIGHTER will turn left or right when she reached the sea!

Quite right Ben, Pride of Dover is dead ship her AIS has not been on for weeks, I understand she has been renamed Pride for the voyage or possibly The Pride.

Did you pick up my piece about the Dockman at the AEI.

Regards
Ken

Yes thanks Ken just seen that thread now. Good to see she is still about, i assume Dockman has not moved under her own power mind as recent photos show her being towed.

It was very windy on the river yesterday thats why i assume her the pride of dover never left?

Ben

She departed the Landing Stage between 10.00-11.00 hours, but it was a bit of a protracted event due to one of the Svitzer tugs' wires getting caught up with the towing chains from the Eide Fighter. Her progress down Gravesend Reach with Svitzer Mercia assisting at the stern was sedate to say the least.

Cedric, FYI vessels under tow do pass the Suez Canal. The ocean-going tug will disconnect at Port Said before passing. Suez Canal tugs will take the dead vessel through the Canal, and the ocean-going tug will pass separately. Upon arrival at Suez she'll connect again. Have a look at

By the way, agree Aliaga is a likely destination for the "Pride of Dover"....

Eide Fighter's AIS is currently showing her in the Channel with a destination of Tuzla, Turkey.

Tuzla is closer to Aliaga than Aliaga is to Suez, so its looking like shes going to meet her maker at the hands of the Ottomans i guess.

fwiw.

Tuzla is also a very busy shipyard with plenty of expertise in repairing ships like the Dover. So keep your eyes dry and your fingers crossed, there may still be life in her yet.

Rumour has it that her sistership "Pride of Calais" may go to Transeuropa for the Ramsgate - Oostende Service.

Thank you for that information, I was under the impression that "dead ships" could not pass the Suez Canal and had to move through under their own power.

A poster on the Dover Ferry Photos Forum (registration required) heard that an announcement on the Pride of Calais could happen in the next week. Also mentioned by another poster was the news Kai just mentioned that the Pride (of Dover) would be repaired in Turkey, since that would be cheaper even with the tow than doing that sort of work here in Europe.

I should also mention that there have been various rumours regarding Trans Europa Ferries and new tonnage for them over the last few years and so far, nothing has happened. It was reported that they have already tried a couple of times to get the Pride of Dover but those deals fell through at the last moment. They even had a Trans Europa Ferries crew in Oostende ready to leave to Tilbury to collect the Pride of Dover. It seems they now have got together with some Italian investors now so hopefully this will happen. They really need some new tonnage new as their current ships (Gardenia and Larkspur) suffer from a lot of technical issues lately

Point is that the Suez Canal Tariff for vessels transiting under tow and suspected scrap ships ( and that is in the S.C.Authorities' discretion to impose ) is extremely high.
It is about twice the "normal" tariff plus the enormeous charges for the tugs plus the S.C. oceangoing salvage tug imposed on top.
So, if your vessel arrives at Port Said roads for transit a) in ballast and b) a bit ageing the S.C. Authorities will board the vsl and perform a sea trial. Then they will either reject the vessel for transit or impose a number of tugs - in their discretion.
So your scrappy better be a) in a technically good condition and b) you have a (fake) timecharter on board by which master can prove that he's ballasting to say Jeddah for delivery to a local timecharterer. Such methods are quite "standard" coz we are talking about quite some money saving potential. Now, if the "Pride" is already marked as "for scrap" in Equasis and elsewhere such methods may fail and vsl going to Aliaga.
Prices per long ton ship's steel are presently about 100-150 tons higher in India than they are in Turkey.

Good evening...I've just been listening to 2 pilots on London VTS (scanner) one of which was on the tug Eide Fighter yesterday. He was saying that once the Pride of Dover got into the yard in Turkey she would be assessed and IF in good enough conditon than plans were afoot to use her as a ferry in the Black Sea between Turkey and the Ukraine. So maybe there is hope..albeit a fair few miles away.
