Victory for European dockers
« on: January 18, 2006, 12:52:44 PM »
The European Parliamant has today declined acceptance of the "Port Package II". 532 members voted "no", while only 120 members have voted for acceptance. This is a big victory for the dockers and all other port-related companies.
dead slow ahead !  :-)
best regards, Klaus

I read it today, too. What a success! I hope that the European Parliamant won't project a "Port Package III".

Given the number of policemen injured and the damages caused to European parliament building, not to mention the way the dockers representatives behaved, I definitely won't call that a victory but rather balckmail. In any case it's not a victory at all for the democracy.

Regards
Bernard

This is a big victory for protectionism, and a defeat for free trade.

Surely the shipping industry, of all industries, recognises how much it's gained from free trade and deregulation in the past?  ;-)
