MILITARY SHIPS

Hi all,

A reminder for your benefit as well as the website, it has been noticed that uploads are not always conforming to this request on spacing of pennant numbers.

If you are adding for example P840 then that is how it should be and not as P 840, if you leave a space it will not be recognised in the search and therefore your photograph will not be included with all the others.

The same applies to Ship Names, it is necessary to have a standard format.

Regards
Ken

SHIP NAME BOX

Please do not enter spaces or dots between the letters in the country designator for example H.M.S  it should be HMS with no dots because the dots can confuse the search. Also please give the full name and pennant number for example HMS PORTLAND F79 in the Ship Name box with the classification F being the prefix and the pennant number 79 always being the suffix.

PENNANT NUMBER BOX

Please enter the pennant number Alfa Numeric for example F79 with no spaces, dots, brackets dashes, or inverted commas because this can confuse the search.
Please note that this box should also include Hull Numbers for countries that do not use a letter as a classification prefix.

I find it not surprising that there are many non-conforming uploads to the Military categories because the site standards for this category have become much too complicated.
This must be particularly so for members for whom English is not their first language.
As I see it, there are two possible solutions: 1. Simplify things; 2: Admins spend more time putting things right. Probably it would need a combination of both alternatives.

"HMS PORTLAND F79" doesn't seem very complicated, even at this ungodly hour  :)

what about RFA's, should they named as 'RFA Cardigan Bay'  or 'Cardigan Bay' or RFA Cardigan Bay L3009 or Cardigan Bay L3009
