a quick question? Panama or Magellan
« on: February 28, 2012, 03:45:19 PM »
Hi everybody,
need some info on below in order
to write an assignment:

what's a common option
to deliver bulk grain cargo from Argentina Port
for example, Necochea (Puerto Quequen) to any Japanese port.

I used sea-distance.com
it showed that using the Magellan strait shortens
the sea passage.

But what do actually the operators prefer?

thanks for your help in advance !!!

Alex

usually they would choose Magellan, pilotage in that case would be not compulsory to pass there and it is shorter. PanCan cost pretty much money and the distance is longer.
Necochea-Yokohama for example is via Magellan 10300 nm via pan-can it would be 13100
so any operator who chooses going via pan-can must have a very good reason to request that

The Magellan route carries with it in the minds of laymen tales and legends of 'round the Horn', and all that!
Although it is still an area of treacherous seas, sailing 'round the Hor'; in a modern bulk carrier is nothing to what it was in the days of sail.
