LORD WAVERLEY indeed aground at mouth of Stour last April.  I understand that she was  refloated in May and joined LORD DEVONPORT in New Cut, Richborough.

But no idea whether they are still there.  They had been rumoured as going to France.

Hi David

Had a good look round the area today and could find no trace, even the locals didnt seem to know much, they were meant to go upriver but were too deep draft, though you would think that would have been seen as a problem!

Have now seen photo of the two berthed together in the New Cut in May 2011 (they would never have been intended to go further up than that anyway).

Where exactly is the New Cut in relation to the power station and or the small creek where the old Spithead is laying ? Cant imagine i missed them as i did manage to get to the river front to the rear of the old car parks where new cars used to be stored.

It might just be called The Cut nowadays.
They were on the river-front berth just north of Stonar Cut where the Spithead is.  I think it used to be called "New Wharf".
Here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.302287,1.348776&spn=0.003354,0.006856&t=h&z=17

Sounds like they have moved on (somehow).

Just thought I would let people know that the tugs are still moored on the wharf at Richborough.
I own the old Spithead and I can see them clearly from the back of the barge. They are not however accessible in any way as the wharf is all security fenced.
Any questions welcome.

Many thanks for the update Paul.    Do you know what they are being used for , or perhaps who owns them?

Interesting shot!  :o

Great photo Ben, she was at some strange angles when out in the bay.
I do know the owner, but I have no idea of his eventual plans for the tugs.
The owners friend who is looking after them has invited me out next time one is run up.
I should think that will be quite an experience with the 1100 hp British Polar engine.

Having worked all the 'Lord'Boats at various times,it's a travesty the state they are now in.
They probably ranked, along with the'Old'Yantlet,as some of the best plant the PLA ever had
built.A great pity the PLA never had the foresight to offer one,to interested parties,as a
restoration project.
Regards,Doug.

Sounds great, be sure to get some snaps and keep us updated.  I have her rated as 935bhp British Polar?

Heres an interesting photo of the pair in 1995 owned by Jackabaits at Point Wharf in tidy condition here.

I couldnt agree more. If only others saw what superb tugs these are.   The LORD RITCHIE (Jim higgs) went from the Thames and was the last to be used up until last year.    Shes for sale i believe.

Im after her too, my father used to be a PLA deck hand on her and im keen to find her as a personal quest.
Any info would be amazing. Latest photos ive seen are dated a year ago roughly around the stour/richborough area.
