"Harvest Legend" renamed 1.9.2009 on being acquired by HLE Shipping Co. Ltd. with managers Harbor Shipping & Trading SA of Khios Island, Greece.

It has been established that for their own ships Harbor Shipping & Trading SA have a different funnel: see photo of "Chios Liberty"  by Captain Ted  19.1.2012 and my own identification that their funnel was black with a broad blue band and narrow white bands near top and bottom of this blue band, this funnel checking out with 3 of the other ships listed under this company In Lloyds Groups 8/2008 where Harbor Shipping is shown as being agents for the one ships companies which normally means that they are owners with the agency providing an extra layer of protection. In this case I am assuming that what is shown for an "agency ship" which is probably also owned would not be used for  ship for which they were acting as managers.

In a photo taken 5.12.2009 the ship has a black funnel with a wide sky blue band with narrow white bands near top and bottom of this blue band and between them an ordinary white "H". There is a similarity thus between these two funnels differenced only by the addition of a white "H".

In another photo 12.4.2011 it is shown with a black funnel and a broad darker blue with a more fancy white "H" having a curved ended horizontal arm extending past the vertical legs. At this stage the ship was still managed by Harbor Shipping & Trading SA but 23.8.2011 the manager became Sicuro SA of Greece and this is the current position.

No photos of the ship since 13.4.2011 by Captain Ted and Paul Sullivan.

A photo of "Harvest Rising" by Aleksi Linstrom 19.2.2012 shows the same latter funnel i.e. black with black band and fancy "H". This funnel has been in use since at least 27.7.2011 with photos by Alec Sansen.

"Harvest Rising" dates from 1.5.2010 with its owner HRI Shipping Co. Ltd. under managers Wilhelmsen Ship Management  Ltd. of Pasadena USA.

The conclusions to date:

"Harvest Rising" does not have any connection with Harbor Shipping & Trading S.A.

The registered owners of the two ships are HLE Shipping Co. Ltd. and HRI Shipping Co. Ltd. and by their format there may be a connection.

The "H" would seem to represent the same owner. Perhaps with "Harvest Legend" which is the first involved, the funnel first noted may have been a utilisation of the then managers funnel differenced by the "H" for the mystery owner. But later this mystery owner perhaps wanted his own funnel unconnected with Harbor Shipping, thus the funnel shown by 12.4.2011 which agrees with "Harvest Rising" from its 2010 acquisition. When "Harvest Legend" changed its markings is not known as there is the gap between 5.12.2009 and 12.4.2011. What "Harvest Rising" used from 1.5.2010 to 13.4.2011 is unknown.

Ship dates and details are taken from Equasis.

At least this provides a clue as to the registered owners names - "Charles Martin" is CMA Shipping Co. Ltd. i.e. the first two letters of each owner's name are the first two of the ships names. Look back Captain Ted, you have logged previous photos of "Charles Martin" showing the Harbor Shipping funnel [no letter] 1.7.2010 which is a change from 16.1.2009 which probably fits in with her takeover and change of name 14.1.2009 when Harbor Shipping became managers until 17.6.2011 when Sicuro SA took over that role.

Now we have an all blue funnel with a thinner fancy "H" and depending on when taken it could still mean goodbye to Habor Shipping influence and a mystery "H" owner

Thanks, that seems to count Harbor Shipping out and just leave us with a total mystery and no candidate

The ultimate owner of all these "Harvest" ships is the large US agricultural/commodities company Archer-Daniels Midland Co (ADM) http://www.adm.com/en-US/Pages/default.aspx

Their eight bulkers (CHARLES MARTIN + 7 HARVESTs), as well as three 51000dwt newbuildings at Oshima, are mentioned briefly on the website as operated within the ADM Logistics arm.

The deep sea shipping operations seem to be run by something called "Harvest Shipping Co" or "ADM Harvest Shipping Co" at the ADM headquarters in Decatur IL.  See
