A new question that I'm sure some of you will know. The vessel SEAWAY ALBATROS, Heavy Load Carrier IMO 9032496, left the port of La Spezia (ITA) on 11/03/24 and arrived at the anchorage of Aliaga on 15/03/24. Today 16/03/24 disembarked a ship, probably of the Italian Navy, which was beached in Aliaga. Do you know which ship it is?

Another UNKNOWN towed by PROTUG 18 IMO 8410213 from Agios Nikolaos (Crete, GRC) on 15/03/24 to Aliaga...Beached 17/03/2024.

Thank you very much.
Manuel

This is all my research and if there is anything wrong, please say so.

I have broken my head researching, I do not affirm anything but I believe 99% that everything I say is true.

If anyone has any comments, they would be appreciated

SUPER SHUTTLE FERRY 15 (IMO 6811528)

Technical Data

SUPER SHUTTLE FERRY 15

The Super Shuttle Ferry 15 here is an incredible story.

First we have to go to the year 2012 where the Super Shuttle Ferry 15 ran aground.

The 262 dwt roll-on/roll-off passenger ferry Super Shuttle Ferry 15 ran aground near Merida, Leyte, Philippines.  The ferry had left the port of Ormoc City with 191 passengers bound for Cebu when it lost power after suffering engine failure.   The vessel drifted until it ran aground in shallow water.   The vessel contacted the Philippine Coast Guard, who reported that the ship had run aground and that its sister ship, the Super Shuttle Ferry 23, was being dispatched to the scene.   A few hours later the Super Shuttle Ferry 23 arrived, transferred 185 passengers and returned to Ormoc City.  There are no reports of injuries.

Ferry Accident – what had happened?
There are still a lot of different stories told around the island. We report the most obvious one:

Super Shuttle Ferry 15 had plied the route from Cebu to Camiguin in the night from Friday to Saturday, November 21 to 22. The crew then discovered water entering below the water line around the tail shaft. The responsible officer then decided not to sail back to Cebu but wait for a tug to be brought to Cebu.

Instead of dispatching a tug boat with strong engines from Cebu, the company decided that the much smaller and much under-motorized Super Shuttle Ferry 11 should tow the big number 15 to Cebu.

Yesterday they started the operation when sea had been rough and wind blew at 35 km/h. They completely underestimated the strong drifts on this coast. The drifts, the waves and the wind together pushed the two boats northwards and towards the coast. The weak engine of Super Shuttle Ferry 11 had no chance.

Instead of cutting the tow rope and safe at least number 11, the two ships collided and ran on ground in the coral blocks

Following that disaster, a tugboat was dispatched to tow the Super Shuttle Ferry 15 to the port of Jaman, Misamis Oriental, Philippines.

This arrived there in 2015 with the idea of repairing it, but it was never done and that is why I have it as abandoned in 2016.

Thank you very much for the information David. I will keep an eye out for your arrival in Aliaga to make a note of it.

Now I would like to ask for the "researchers". On 10/03/2024 the tug Protug 75 (IMO 9559781) arrived towing something? To Aliaga which she brought from Constanta (ROM) on 03/03/2024. Let's see if anyone can find out what it is. I didn't get it.

Thanks,
Manuel

Super Shuttle Roro 5 (IMO 7822500)

Technical Data

The "Super Shuttle RoRo 5" was beached by the typhoon Nock-Ten (Nina) on Dec 26, 2016 at the Mabini coast in the Batangas province, south of Manila. At 11 a.m. the ferry drifted in the waters off Mabini San Miguel, before running agrund. The Coast Guard deployed the "Pampanga" and "MCS 3001" to verify the situation and assist in rescue operations. All 25 passengers and crew members were saved.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) contained an oil spill from the "Super Shuttle Roro 5" that ran aground in Mabini town in the Batangas province at the height of typhoon “Nina” in December 2016. 100 liters of bunker fuel mixed with water spilled in the area where the ferry had been stranded in Barangay (village) Malimatoc.

The vessel was later sold to a new owner, who recently started the ship’s stripping. The  Coastguard received a report of an oil spill in the late evening of March 12 oif 2018. Immediately they sent responders and booms.

However, the PCG ordered the salvaging suspended “to see what better way to avoid another leak.  The wreck was believed to still contain bunker fuel in its lower deck.

That is why the semi-dismantled ship remains in place.
