1  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: construction plate battleship SMS Mark Graf on: October 17, 2017, 04:19:31 am
Sorry I was not aware that larger size photographs are not suitable on the Forum.

This construction plate was recovered from the bottom of Scapa Flow and is now
attached to the Stonehaven Snorekellers diving charter vessel Karin:

This photo you found of the very few available on the web.
shows a date of 23 June 1971 at Piraeus - Athens, Greece.

As I sailed on the Lindos via Athens at the end of June 1971,
this photograph could actually have been taken on that very
same sailing!!!!
What a coincidence, 46 years to the date!!!

I have been unable to locate any photographs of Lindos, but vessel
was built in 1952 by the name Lyautey, IMO 5215040;
broken up 1974 at Castellon:

5  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / former Greek passenger ferry Lindos on: September 30, 2017, 02:42:27 am
In the summer of 1971, I made a couple of sailings on the Greek-registered ferry that maintained a scheduled service between Ancona, Italy and Haifa, Israel, with stops at Brindisi, Corfu, Athens, Rhodes, Limassol and Famagusta.

The vessel had a swimming pool; did not carry vehicles, but motor bikes could be loaded via the gangway.

Fares (including daily breakfast, lunch and dinner and shared cabin accommodation) were incredibly cheap. I paid, for example, for the full three-day voyage between Ancona and Haifa, $78.00. For my motor bike I paid an additional $15.00 for a total of $93.00.

The fare between Haifa and Athens, via the two stops at Cyprus and Rhodes was $36.00 (again with the room and board).

I have posted a rather poor photograph (from a faded 1971 vintage colour slide): http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2744899
but I cannot find any reference on this Lindos.

Does anybody recognize this vessel possibly under another name...

Thanks.

In two days I saw two US fishing vessels return from Alaska bearing the same name:

Are there not any rules disallowing more than one same name per vessel....
