31  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: Knock Nevis bound for breakers?! on: November 25, 2009, 07:53:17 am
Hello
by an info from Lloyds List she is sold to Asiatic Interest. Most properly she will go for Singapore to be used as storage tanker.
out of Lloyds list
Fred. Olsen Production said Knock Nevis, which has the capacity to store 4.2m barrels of crude, will be delivered to the new owner before the end of this year.
Energy companies in Asia have chartered tankers for floating storage requirements because of a shortage in onshore storage and this year’s downturn in demand.

32  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: ex NORASIA ships on: November 11, 2009, 06:18:13 pm
Hello
The ships had been build for the Transatlantic service from Norasia  Five ships was build by HDW in Germany and five more in China. The Design idea about this ships was on one side to build extraordinary ships, which have smallest  resistance  against wind and waves.
The hull was designed by an office which originally build fast sailing yachts.
to make it short: The whole thing ended up in desaster. Norasia lost a lot of money and was sold (I am not sure but I think to P.Doehle) due to bankrupcy.
All ships had big problems with the Gear box (I think it was 2001 or 2002 when 8 of the vessels lying idle in Gibraltar). Most ships was sold to V-Ships and so much as I know most vessels get new Main Engines or was rebuild to only one gearbox.
One of my colleagues had sailed on one of this vessels  (Maiden voyage) and she told us that the whole thing (Engine) was trouble
But may someone else has more Infos

37  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: Somali pirates highjacked ro-ro carrying tanks to Kenya on: October 03, 2008, 03:50:06 pm
Found in Fairplay today following info

AST African seafaring official has been charged by Kenya with issuing alarming statements regarding the hijacked Ukrainian cargo ship Faina and possession of cannabis.
Andrew Mwangura, who heads Mombasa's Seafarers Assistance Programme, was arrested yesterday in response to statements he made regarding the intended destination of Faina's munitions cargo.
Mwangura was also accused of possessing cannabis.
He has denied both charges and his case will be heard on 30 October.
Officials claimed that his statements could cause alarm among the general public.
Kenyan officials vehemently denied the cargo was on its way to southern Sudan, a claim repeated by US Navy insiders and various media outlets.

I am not sure but I think Mr.Mwangura gave us a lot of info about the things which are going on down there. Most properly and I am for sure not alone in my thoughts this is a political thing, poor guy seemsAfrica had to take a lot of steps to come up to a normal way to handle such matters.

Beste wishes to Mr. Mwangura
