2  Shipspotters all over the world / Site related news, functions and modules / Ship Spotting - Ships or armament? on: June 23, 2016, 04:23:11 pm
Hello together

Top Picture - http://shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2482532

I am a member since 2005 and never had a idea that we have also a category "armament". Okay, I am also not that interested in the grey vessels but when I get one of the navy vessel in front of my camera I take the shot but from the "ship".
But today I was a bit surprised and that brought me to write a comment
I am really quite astonished how a simple gun made it to the Top Pics........That brings myself to think about that really nice and beautifull pics where as example some seagull is present get deleted becaused it is called a obstruction. Okay that is standart of the site i can hardly accept but I except. But here in this case "nothing" at all which gave me the idea that the picture is related to a vessel except the headline for the pic. My question whats the idea  of the site shipspotting or armament show. Next think may I will see is the revolver or pistol from one of the safety guards........... forget it

My opinion - we should stick tothe world of ships, navy and merchant, but ships, not armaments. .
The Internet world have enough possibilities to get some info about armaments, guns and the other navy and army stuff, use this.
Just keep it close to the name of the site it is called "Shipspotting"

My point of view

3  Shipspotters all over the world / Site related news, functions and modules / Re: Locations not available on: August 22, 2015, 01:24:12 pm
Hello together

long time ago I asked also about this matter. For me as a seafarer it would be also good to have some important nautical (places) mentioned in the locations menue.
As example
Malacca Strait
Strait of Hormuz
Biscay
Juan de Fuca Strait
Gulf of Aden
Bab el Mandeb

and others

In my opinion it should be no problem for the responsible person to transfer the details of the places where the the picture was shot to the Locations data list, or I am wrong.

Thanks

4  Shipspotters all over the world / Scale Models / Search for GA Plan - Selma Dan or Tanja Dan on: August 13, 2015, 11:21:18 am
Hello togehter

Help needed - I am looking for a GA Plan from either the Selma Dan or Tanja Dan (http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=231414). The vessels are sisters build in 1964 in Japan. May someone has or know where to get a copy of a GA Plan of this vessels. The ships been quite unique and the possibilty that descriptions of this vessel been published in some Maritime magazins in this time are given, may in "Motor Ship" or in the annual publications of "Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in Japan. A hint or pdf or scan would be great.
Purpose of this request is to build a model in small 1:1250

best regards and thanks for help in advance

5  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: Shipspotting or shipposting ? on: December 24, 2014, 11:25:13 am
Hello together

For me all the arguments you used in your statements are acceptable, but I have to give my position in all way to the statement of Captain Ted.
I like old ships more as the ships from today, I started sailing in the beginning of the eighties when vessels like the old Lykes Liners and the state lines from Colombia and russia and othe countries like Brazil was still seen on the oceans , beautiful ships compared to the boxes from nowadays, but the site as I understand was a shipspotter site. I personal also get less interested in this site over the years specially then this " most viewed pics" was installed. It leads to a lot of argumentations and discussions which was not at all time "friendly".

For myself, just remove this most viewed ships from the top bring in like it was before the last 12 vessels and everybody can decide  what he like.

My opinion, my thoughts in a short text

6  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: Decline of site standard or personal Satisfaction or what ? on: April 24, 2014, 02:57:56 pm
Hello together

Competition - what kind of competition? As I remember this site was just to satisfy people which are somehow infected by ships and infos related to them. Looks like now it is a competition who gets most hits. For me absolute nonsense!
When I joined the Site in 2005 it was just to share my pics with other members who been interested in shipping. I do not count and I will never do the hits fpor my pics it is muh more fun to get a reply to the photos and even better if a story will be behind. But sorry for that this getting less and less too.
My opinion
get rid of this counting hit system on the first page and show the latest twelve pics like it was made in the past. Much more info, much higher variety of photos.

7  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: Loosing focus ?, Shipspotting or post anything from anywhere on: December 12, 2013, 11:12:29 am
Hello guys

Please do not loose the focus - This is shipspotting that means in my opinion take pics of ships, load this one on this website and be happy if other people like it. But that means for me pics that I make myself and didnīt picked up on other websites or libaries or museums. I have nothing against old pics I love the old ships  and vessels but please only pics that the member made by himself or got from his dad or an old friend but not out from my collection which nobody knows where it come from.
I am 100% behind Cap.Ted thoughts, for myself I also see that the site changed a lot - not for the better side - it should be a community where shiplovers share there - pics which they made with other members and all kind off pics are welcome but one time more it must be clear that it was made by the owner of the pic or somehow a relation to it.
One thing more - for me the worst thing on this site is the hitlist - sometimes I think people use this part of the site as a competition !!! Nice pic, a little Photoshop and there a little bit more dark here a bit more contrast - ships are sailing in bad weather, in foggy condition and in perfect condition - Guys keep it like it is all pics are Art even the bed once I did not need to make a new one out of an old one.
So in a short way no libary pics, no pics transfered from other sites and no pics where the photographer is not connected to the uploader by agreement

Thanks and best regards

Hello together

today 31.03.2013, a SD 14 passed us in the Arabian sea, around 6 hours from Salalah. The course seems to go to India, no AIS signals no identification at all.
Unfortunately the visibility was also not the best but it looks that the vessel was quite similiar to the Dae San from far away.
Anybody a idea which SD 14 is scheduled for srapping.

Best regards

13  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: MARITIME and SHIP RELATED EVENTS in 2012 ?... please report / announce here... on: April 18, 2012, 01:47:01 pm
Hello together

the event in Flensburg this year is called Flensburg Nautics, see here

http://www.nautics-flensburg.de/

sorry the whole description is only in german !!! I think nowadays it should be in english as well and due to the fact that Danmark is around the corner also in danish but.......

But somehow "ship is schiff" and so it should be possible to see the sailing ships which are part of this event.

The famous "Dampf Rundum" one of the biggest event for steamships in Europe will be held July 2013

Best regards

14  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Question for our friends in Chile and of course for all interested in shipping on: December 31, 2011, 06:44:58 pm
Hello together

may a story worth to read at Silvester when most of the people a ready to celebrate.

2004 I got invited by the seamans Priest in Valparaiso Mr. Asmus. He picked me up in San Antonio and showed me some places ashore. When we passed a bridge close to the port of San Antonio, where a river goes by to the pacific he told me that years ago a scandinavian vessel (He thought it was Norwegian but not 100 % sure) missed the entrance to the Port of San Antonio and ended up in the delta of the mentioned River close to the bridge. When the authorities entered the vessel they founf the complete Crew drunken - may it was the silvester night to New year. Somebody can confirm this story and may even know the name of this vessel.

Best regards
Andreas Schlatterer (Capesize) and happy new year
