76  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: SAFMARINE MERU ablaze following collision with NORTHERN JASPER on: May 10, 2016, 06:34:21 am
Exactly Ted,
And nowadays with these 'cut throat' and fierce competition the one with the cheapest crews is loosing the least money.
And 'never mind' as long as they have proof of training and all their certificates according STCW the insurance company will pay out.
I guess you also have lots of "experiences'.
Cheers,
Roy

Believe me, it's more or less common practice these days that a lot (putting it mildly) of mariners have absolutely no idea what they are doing on watch.
Radar, Ecdis and all other electronic aids, not to forget AIS, only make things worse. Just look outside and take sight-bearings of visual targets (that you spot outside the window!) and these accidents would never happen.
Nationality's, yeah better not to talk about that.

Roy

81  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / Re: Mushroom anchor on: March 26, 2016, 01:15:58 pm
Hi Mattyboy,
Mushroom anchors are normally used for vessels "permanently" at anchor, such as Light-vessels.
They have a good holding power in silt.

Roy

Found in the Clarkson new-building list that MSC Eloane and MSC Mirjam are sisters to the MSC Diana.
So they will be from Samsung. So far don't have the IMO-numbers.

Roy

I wonder if HMM and Hanjin will merge.
They originate from two complete different conglomerates.
Interesting to see what will happen.

84  Shipspotters all over the world / Help and Advice / Re: Owner & Manager info's not available on additional information on: March 11, 2016, 12:45:43 pm
Dear everybody,

The loss of info at the pictures is indeed regrettable, though I'm afraid we have to live with it at the moment.

It might be in the future that we have to pay for info or that we get a "two tier" system shipspotting, a basic free part and a more thorough paid part with additional features.
I'm definitely not in favor of that!

The thing is that some of us have a lot of info at their disposal and some of us have a lot less or almost no info at their disposal.
But all of us together we have a vast amount of info to share !! And I find that a lot of, if not all, members are willing to help each other with answering questions and / or providing useful info.

As we are all shiplovers please keep it this way. So far this site is a great place / community to search for ship-info and of course pictures of our favorite object(s).

Cheers,
Roy
85  Shipspotters all over the world / Trip reports / Re: Gibraltar on: March 06, 2016, 02:00:30 pm
Well Piet with a 400mm lens you should be pretty ok.
I definitely would take the walk to 'Europa point', i.e. the southern tip where you have an open view of the strait and the entrance of Gibraltar Bay. You just have to be lucky that there is not to much haze.
Cheers,
Roy

Hi Rick,
Thanks for the info.
If I have some connections of names and imo-numbers I'll inform you of course.
But so far you had a lot more info than I had.
Cheers,
Roy

Hi gents,
So that's probably the reason they lifted the option for another 8 14000teu vessels.
Cheers,
Roy
