Hi Ken

Yes as predicted it was short lived back to the new one this morning, guess it was a small gremlin at MT HQ!

Agree with you Ken sometimes the photos take an eternity to load if at all...

Cheers
Richard

Tonight i have appeared to have gone back to the old Marinetraffic site, i can't say im upset, in fact i'm delighted - the old site is FAR superior to the new beast.

I bet it's only temporary though... Sad

Personally as a youngster (although tomorrow i turn 38 eek!) i enjoy looking at the old photos that are posted from a by gone era when i was not around.

The line in the sand should be it must be the posters own photo/owned copyright, or posted with permission from the photo's original copyright holder. Photos outside this simple criteria should be excluded from the site.

Otherwise rename site ShipArchive.com and leave it at that!... Tongue

It's always the same another website tinkered with and changed for the worse. The 5 minute delay doesn't bother me as there was always a slight "lag" wih AIS anyway.

The members log in button also has a habit of disappearing to annoyingly....Sad

Ken,

To me the above photo looks to artificial, and your correct we are seeing more of this type being uploaded. The question is how far is to far? If a photo is dark and requires a small tweak to lighten it fair enough but where's the cut off point between realistic enhancement and over the top?  Undecided

I've always wondered what with the thousands & thousands of ships ever to sail the seven seas how many of these ARE NOT represented on this site by way of a photo!  Tongue

I bet it's a mind boggling amount...furthermore can you imagine just how many ships have ever sailed full stop?  Shocked

I have noticed Thomson Celebration booked into Northern European ports for 2014, but i was told by someone who has just returned from a Thomson cruise that Celebration may do Spirit's itineraries in 2013, so yes it could be possible the Spirit is being pushed out.

Here is link to an old thread regarding this from 2010. May be out of date somewhat but gives you a starting point to go on

30  Shipspotters all over the world / Shipping News and information / NorthLink lose ferry contract on: May 04, 2012, 04:28:48 pm
After 10 years serving Orkney & Shetland, NorthLink ferries this afternoon lost it's contract to run the  ferry service to Serco group.

After July 6th Serco assume the services with all bookings if made before then honoured.

The current vessels Hjaltland, Hrossey, Hamnavoe, Helliar, & Hildasay will be operated by the new operator, who are promising a modernizing of the service at all levels from booking to disembarkation.

Bit of a surprise Serco winning this so we'll see what happens in the months ahead.

Cheers
Richard
