Hello out there can anyone tell me what the difference is between a CAPE bulk carrier and a PANAMAX bulk carrier is.Some of these big ones looking like some of the super tankers just what is the signifigance in the look of these.Where exactly in what section might I find the two on here.If anyone here is posting any photos of these type ships in particular the bulk carriers would you be so kind to let me know who you are.So I may be able to find the photos that way.As it is extremely difficult to browse the section to find them.Being they are not catagoricly seperated and it is going to take an extreme amount of time just browsing the bulker section by dates. :-?

Jimmy, cape bulkers are too big for panama canal & thus have to go around .

Ok I was not just to sure.I thought that may have something to do with it.So just how much bigger are they than a PANAMAX? Are there super tankers as well to big for the Panama Canal? Can these fit through the Suez Canal?

good day Jim
Caper is actually a shortening for CAPESIZER and is by it,s size too big
to pass the Panama.
Panamax is usually defined by the width of the vessel
32.20 m is the max width permitted by the ACP (Authoridad Canal de Panama)
the acutal width is 33.10M (I think)
the max length is 294 m, but the length does not define the panamax criteria
therefore it can very well be that a 200 m long vessel is already a panamax
because she is 23.2 wide.
