Title: CRANE ACCIDENT----Port Weller Dry Docks

ST CATHERINES,ONTARIO CANADA--The first thundering crack caused nearby trucks and telephone poles to shake.those who heard and felt it along Bunting Road turned toward the Port Weller Dry Docks to see Clyde,a massive 130-foot crane,swaying.It rocked for a few moments in heavy winds and then,along with its massive steel load,collapsed backwards into the two concrete dry dock bays beside it.The blue cab,with its operator inside,was crushed on the thick wall dividing the two bays.Adriver said he stopped his truck and looked at the crane.It rocked left,then right,then left and then it just fell over backwards into the dry dock.                 If any of you guys posting Laker photos has pics of it could you some how post one here . I wasn,t sure how to incorperate it into this artical.If anyone gets any futher info or pics of the accident please feel free to post with this artical.

A blogger has an overall view of before and after views of the  crane, but from a distance. Sad that a man died. I have personally seen what a crane looks like after a failure, luckily in our case no one was hurt. That blogger's address is

I was wondering if you could follow up with causes, Jim, after the dust settles. Usually crane accidents are due to going against the Load Chart and in this case the accounts of the accident seems to indicate a problem with the crane pedestal or foundation.

Here is also a pretty sad report about the crane operator....
