Hi all,
i have just arrived in Thailand and was looking forward to using Marine traffic or Vesssel finder for live ship tracking.
After trying both sites, it became clear that i was going to have to pay for live tracking, 200 dollars a month for Marine traffic.
Does anyone know of an alternative site or way to access live movements for free.
I have used Marine traffic in the past from the UK to search Bangkok live and it worked fine then for free, may be this is how it will go in the future.?
regards,
David

Just checked both in UK. I do not pay for either Marinetraffic or Vesselfinder. Marinetraffic only 1 minute behind actual time whereas Vesselfinder more scantily covered area but 9 minutes behind.
Both accessible.
Also try https://www.myshiptracking.com/ The countries are in own language/script so you will have to navigate with your mouse to country but ships are in English. I've just tried it first time and no cost to see map/ship locations.

Live tracking can also be done with fleetmon.com

Fleetmon tracking only 15 minutes per day for free unless you have earned credits.

Thanks all,
I tried Marine Traffic again 2 days ago and was very surprised to see that it was approx 95% live.
So with Marine Traffic working almost normal and the link that Geir Vinnes sent me giving me a very accurate 24 hour traffic schedule, i have no excuses now not to miss anything.
I was tracking a ship this morning called Cherry which i thought was a reefer, it turned out to be called Cherry 19 and was registered in Portsmouth.
regards,
David.

Last few days Marine traffic is about 50% live, better than nothing.

I guess that the tracking availability varies if they have local AIS stations or you need to use their premium tracking service by satellite.

Another place to share AIS data is AISHUB at https://www.aishub.net/

I use Marinetraffic and Fleetmon. ;) (https://www.marine-traffic24.com/) Fleetmon can only be used for 15 minutes a day. Furthermore you have to create an account with Fleetmon. With Marinetraffic you do not necessarily need an account.
