Title: Fatal Marine Accident 1989
Post by: RAPugh on May 04, 2019, 03:42:11 PM
Hi
I am researching our Family Tree, and am currently trying to get information relating to a fatal Marine Accident, which occurred aboard the Oil Tanker, Maersk Navarin, just off Los Angeles, USA, April 1989.

Apparently a Mooring Rope snapped and this killed the Bosun, a British man, Michael Kadlec.

Thanks to sites such as this I have established that this vessel was :-

IMO  7523104
Oil Tanker
36,376 Gross Tonnage.
Built 1977.
Nora Maersk (until 1987)
Maersk Navarin (until 1989)
Bt Navarin (until Feb 2000)
Sea Navarin (until Aug 2001)
Sea Navarino (until scrapped June 2002)

Scrapped at Alang 29 June 2002.

Ideally I would like to get details regarding the accident / Investigation etc.  Even Digital images of the USA Newspapers of this incident would be good.

I have seen the two photo images posted on this site, are any available of her time as the Maersk Navarin?

Can anyone assist, or point me in the right direction.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,

The 'Los Angeles Time' seems to have published an article on April 19th 1989.
Please look at : https://www.newspapers.com/search/#lnd=1&query=maersk+navarin&t=4312
But you had to pay for full access.

Regards,
Yvon
