Title: 3 sisters from Netherlands early 50's

Dear All,

I'm looking for guidance and help to locate drawings for three Finnlines Netherlands built cargo vessels :

1/ Finnpulp 5115290 (#550)- Completed 1953 Werf. J. Smit & Zoon, Alblasserdam
4.048GRT, 6.604tdw
Scrapped Aliaga 1989-05-18  (Leyal GS Ticaret) maybe Gina ?

2/Finnsailor 5115305 - Completed 1952 by "De Merwede" v. Vliet & Co., Hardinxveld

The J. Smit yard in Alblasserdam was the first yard in the Veolme empire,which later culiminated in the RSV Gropu ans was subsequently dismantled. Newbuilding has ceased there ages ago and I doubt that anybody who was involved in that yard is still alive. There could be archives somewhere, but it would be difficult.

De Merwede Schipyard is still part of the IHC group, but their activities have been reduced significantly since 2015.  This is IHC's website

Hi Juha,

You should try the Rotterdam and or Amsterdam ship museum in the Netherlands, they have significant amount of ships drawings in their archive and should be able to provide copies at cost providing the original ones are located there.

Hi everybody,

Ok, thanks for all advice - I'm probably visiting Rotterdam next October and certainly also the museum.
And as a plan B I will look at Finnmerchant seriously as well, thank for the GA.

I hope you have already found your information. If not, be advised that the three ships you mention (and Finnmerchant as well) were based on the 'Lekhaven' class, a design  developed by Van der Giessen / De Noord during WW2. Apart from the semi-icebreaking stem the hull lines would be similar to this class. Maybe this can help you in finding more plans. Juha,

1/ The shipyard J. Smit in Alblasserdam doesn't exit any more.
this shipyard was situated just North of were the present Megayachtbuilder Oceanco is placed.

2/ The shipyard Merwede van Vliet. Has been takenover by IHC Merwede. At have been longtime their Headquaters. A couple of years ago the bought some other yards and left the old Merwede van Vliet yard.
This place is now used by Neptune shipyards. So still a shipyard. You can google this one.

3/Shipyard De Hoop in Lobith still building ships, but ships passing several low bridge. Most completed still on the old Verolme Ijsselmonde Shipyard were scheepsinstallatiebedrijf Nederland was part of.
Although Verolme doesn't exit any more, the place still have this name. If you google on Dockside shipyard (this is the old YVC Bolnes yard) the old Verolme yard was just west of that yard. Sheds are still there and several small company are the now.

Model is complete - using GA and lots and lots of pictures - TLAR technique... ;D
