Hi All
Please check maybe your photos there uploaded by Shippingexplorer's member without your permission.
Best regards
-
Thank you for the heads up, Husni. It looks like their member, shelby80 (http://www.shippingexplorer.net/en/user/shelby80/52996/photos/ships?p=1) is the main culprit. He has over 2000 image uploads!
After I post this I'll be going through his uploads, for the first couple of pages at least, trying to identify any photos he has stolen from here. After that I'll get in touch with Shipping Explorer and ask if they can take the appropriate action of deleting his photos. I will let you know how I get on.
Best Wishes

I found about 25 of my photos, but all were not uploaded to SS, so I register (which took 15 seconds), after veryfying my eMail I could make comments to my photos and report as "Copyright violation" to the webmaster. Now wait what happens.

I have done likewise, Jurgen, regarding one of mine (thanks for spotting it, Cody).

I notice the member of ShippingExplorer mentioned above has lifted photos from Marine Traffic also. The photo I am referring to is linked below from ShippingExplorer, Shipspotting and Marine Traffic. The person who took the original photo is also a member of this site, John O Neill.

@John van Zijderveld
Have you checked your spamfilter for the registration mail?
It took only a very short time with me yesterday.

Yeah, a few times, even send an email if something went wrong....... Still waiting

Hello. Shelby80's account has been suspended.
-
better than Instagram then as the guy on there is still uploading stolen photos.
Looks like Instagram will only take photos off if you complain and will not suspend the offenders account
Maybe I don't upload anymore photos anywhere?
-
Hi colleagues
Thanks for your hint. I found one of my pictures as well.
I right reported it on the contact link:
http://www.shippingexplorer.net/en/contact
I hope, that some action will be taken.
Kind regards
Marc

My stolen photograph from shipspotting now removed from shipping explorer and the thief has had their account removed.
Ian

Maybe his account is suspended for uploading new stolen photos but 2565 photos are still online visible.

Good work done by Roger (Husni) to find that character stealing our photographs, I have reviewed each of the 2565 photographs and found 2 of my property, it is a pity.
Well I also registered but it has been a couple of hours and I still do not get the confirmation email
Greetings to all..
Juan Carlos..
-
I'm still waiting for that last email from them, already a few days later, even their contact I get no response

Photo Primorsky Prospect in Shipping explorer, pls check..Tks n rgds

Instagram which is owned by Facebook don't appear to have any interest in closing this guys account despite the fact he is a serial copyright thief. He continues to download and post other photographers work on an almost daily basis. He ignores comments about this on his photos and so do Instagram.
Nothing we can do except what I have done and stopped posting photos on here for him to steal.

Hi all,
just a coincidence ?!?
Since some days two users upload on vesseltracker.com hundreds of photos:
jerem80 and zack80
The photos they upload can be found by various different posters on marinetraffic, vesselfinder and also here on our website.
I did ask both if they have the right to post all these photos on vesseltracker.com - one of them did not reply at all, from the other guy I got a rather aggressive reply.
Have contacted vesseltracker.com on Sunday showing links to the photos on other web pages but still see new photos by these guys.
Maybe the admins there need some more input.
Best regards,
Malte

Haven't seen any of mines, but have seen few from Tropic, Drago Brdar and maybe Jadran's "Ilonka".
Sometimes I wander, guys like this one and the other one from Instagram, when people see their photos, given the huge number of locations, would anybody actually believe that the photos were taken by the poster?
Also, if any consolation, since these guys are coming to SS to steal pix, clearly shows who are the best, eh :)
-
next on the home page, the most popular picture form the last 24 hours will be accompanied by the most stolen one. Being on top of that list os also a great recommendation... :)
-
It seems that, as already suggested, shippingexplorer.net has suspended photo uploading by user Shellby80 - no new images have been uploaded on that account since 2 January. But a vast number of pirated images remain, many taken from ShipSpotting. Members' (including my own) experience seems to show that if complaint is made by the actual photographer, particularly if showing the URL of the legitimate image on SS or elsewhere, the site will remove the stolen image. The complaint process involves:
- registering on that site (that process involves responding to an auto-email, which may well be diverted to your spam folder)
- then adding comment to relevant images - and using copyright report link on image page
It is of course a major task to search all 2985, looking for one's own photos, probably far too daunting for most members, and some members may think that it is not worth the effort (and some may not care that their photos are stolen). On the other hand a concerted response to this theft is the most likely to yield results, and perhaps convince the managers of shippingexplorer.net that they need to take firmer action. To assist those who do wish to make a stand, I have prepared a schedule of the most recent 400 images, showing for each of the 177 members identified, their image URLs on shipspotting and shippingexplorer (at the end are those images taken from MarineTraffic and a few from as-yet-unidentified sources. It is attached, and is being emailed to all the members identified.

Thanks David, glad to see that I am not on the list. Perhaps pirates do not like B&W images. What about Maritime Connector, is that a legal pirat operation or do they also steal?
-
Thanks very much Davidships for the advise and the hard work,i have already made a comment on one of my photos stolen on that site

Thank you David.
I've commented (twice) on my stolen photo. I've also sent a separate email to Shipping Explorer asking they remove my photo(s) from their site. Thanks again for the heads up.

Perhaps the thefts have been moved from ShippingExplorer to Vesseltracker under those two accounts? Shelby80, zack80, jerem80 they all have the number 80 on their nicks. I also reported those two to Vesseltracker and also via their news provider Tim S. who told me he had forwarded my complaint to the administration. Let's hope the best.
-
Following the forum intervention of Clyde and Andrey, and a direct message to ShippingExplorer Admin, they have now fully closed the account of Shelby80
http://www.shippingexplorer.net/en/user/shelby80/52996/photos/ships?p=1
see also http://www.shippingexplorer.net/en/forum/thread/copyright-abuse-2/409 I don't know how long that will remain visible)
We will have to remain vigilant. I would think that we have greater chance of a successful outcome with specialist enthusiast sites than with global monoliths like Facebook/Instagram, though we will give that also our best shot.
@Pekka - Thanks for your initiative. I assume that you will let us know of any developments from Vesseltracker. You can also contact me at [email protected] .
David.

Thought I would provide this brief follow up above subject.....
Earlier this morning I logged on to Shipping Explorer web site to see if indeed my photo of BALTIC WASP was removed (On Feb. 3rd I emailed Shipping Explorer asking them to do so). I entered ship name in search panel on their home page and my photo appeared. When I clicked on the search button in the upper portion of photo itself a panel appeared with "Shelby80" and the 2 comments I posted on February 2. When I clicked on "Shelby80" a panel appeared with message "An error occurred while loading content". Although it appears they've shut down this particular account, my photo remains on their site. I emailed Shipping Explorer again, asking this time to either extend the courtesy of providing proper acknowledgment of the photo or remove it. Shipping Explorer have yet to reply to my Feb 3rd email. Nor do I anticipate a reply from my most recent communication.
-
Thanks andrecas.
Alex at ShippingExplorer said that they did not yet have a tool for bulk deletions and they would have to write one.
I have added a further message to the ShippingExplorer forum:
http://www.shippingexplorer.net/en/forum/thread/copyright-abuse-2/409
We will have to keep an eye on this!
David
-
ShippingExplorer Admin, Alex, now confirms that all of Shelby80's photos deleted now and account closed
-
David,
Thank you for the update. Appreciate the effort that you and others put forward dealing with this situation.
andre
PS: Ref my Feb 7 post. Alex did eventually reply to my PM.
-
Thanks David, for all your effort you have made to solve this problem with shelby80. TOP!!

I think that we have a good understanding with ShippingExplorer - hopefully they will not attract similar members again (this was the first that they have been aware of).
@Matte/Pekka - any developments on Vesseltracker yet?

I don't think much will happen there. Besides the "theft80's" I sent them an e-mail about a member who uploaded 5 times the same photo of the Triple-E Lego model box (can you imagine, five times!) but so far no response from their team.
-
Regarding the messages from Malte Classen and Pekka Lakkso about the copyright violation from @zack80 and friends.
I have checked more than 50 photos today from both accounts and found all photos stolen from Marinetraffic and Shipspotting.
I also informed VT.Some years ago I had the problem with one uploader who took abot 10 of my photos. After I send the several mail to their standard-mail-adress I contacted the headoffice
Carsten Bullemer, Martin Leuschner and Ralf Paahsen
[email protected]
[email protected]
I have set them a deadline of 3 days to remove the photos or the account, if no reaction I would forward it to a lawyer, and they have reacted.
In this case I have not found any of my photos but still searching.

Another copyright violation from @zack80 today
http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2509872
And still no reply from Vesseltracker.
-
If Vesseltracker administration won't pay much attention - or at all - to those copyright violations being uploaded and several other dubious uploads like the 5 duplicates of the Lego box photo I mentioned, the site may turn into a real dumping ground of shipping/maritime related photos. That would be rather sad in my opinion.
-
Just noticed jerem80 is back after somewhat a silent period posting several photos of tugs, fishing boats and private sailing yachts to vesseltracker. And ultimately zack80 continues... Could guess several of them without any permission.
-
@Pekka,
@jerem80 has started to upload copyright protected photos (also from Shipspotting) to Fleetmon on friday, but received an automatic ban of his account after 4 copyright violations.
Vesseltracker may not turn into a real dumping ground of shipping/maritime related photos, VT is a dumping ground since years.
Thats why I quit my membership years ago.
