Post by: seaway7228 on November 05, 2016, 02:37:48 PM
Hello, Trying to find the plans, GA and Lines drawings. Tried Tyne & Wear Museum. they had a GA but took ages to get it, then I couldnt open the file sufficiently to work at 1:200.  Appreciate any advice or directions to obtain. Cheers Greg.

The magazine Shipbuilding and Shipping record March 17th 1966 has full description and a GA plan Southampton city library have all the backcopies back to 1947. Also the National maritime museum supposedly keeps plans for all British built ships.

Hello Steve, thank you for the precise information related to the request. I shall contact Southampton City Library. I have in the past used GMM for other vessels but unfortunately they havent any of the plans of this class. Apologise for delayed response.Business has to take precedence. Cheers Greg

Hi Greg

Also, Shipping World and Shipbuilder from April 1966, pages 67 to 73 has an article and GA plan of the TAUPO showing the profile and hull decks; superstructure decks are not included.  If you cannot find a copy then PM me your email address and I will scan the article and GA for you.

Hi OceanCraft,
Many thanks for the information. In fact it is planned to call the vessel MANDAMA which was the name given to TAUPO when it changed hands into the Blue Star Austasia line fleet at Marseille back in the early 80s (I think). I was chief officer on it.. Lovely vessel in my eyes then but in its heyday it would have been stunning. I would very much appreciate your information, as everything is useful at this stage of planned development. [email protected]. Cheers Greg.

She was classed with Lloyd's Register, so they will still have the plans.  They are held off-site from the main office in Fenchuch Street, London but are accessible by arrangement.
Suggest use contact link for the LR Foundation at the foot of this page:

Thanks Davidships, I will explore that avenue too. People working in our London office have some very close links to LR. Not completely certain why I didnt think along those lines earlier. Cheers Greg

Like to thank everyone who contributed to my query with details of where to look. Finally Lloyds' had a few plans which were presented gratis. Also an old Sea Breezes mag going back 8 years had some great photos of a previous modellers 1:200 model and he kindly sent many deck photos of his own model. Thank you all. regards Greg (I can only wish that I had taken more photos of the vessels I sailed on.)
