Title: Need help identifying a (Navy?) ship Post by: nick on January 06, 2015, 09:12:23 pm Hello everyone, I was working on the beach today and noticed a tug towing what looked like an old Navy ship up the Chesapeake bay. The AIS data identified the tug and indicated it was heading to Baltimore but nothing on the ship.
The tug can be see on AIS here: http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:1660219/mmsi:367126540/imo:9405203/vessel:JULIE_ANNE Here's a couple of photos I took of the ship, unfortunately with some distortion due to the distance. Any idea what it might be? https://www.flickr.com/photos/mastergeorge/15597118183/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/mastergeorge/15594571554/in/photostream/ Thanks in advance. -Nick Bohaska Title: Re: Need help identifying a (Navy?) ship Post by: WadeArmstrong on January 06, 2015, 11:05:51 pm It is almost certainly the U.S. Army Vessel USAV Major General Robert Smalls (LSV-8). Only two in this sub-class, and the USAV SSGT Robert T. Kuroda (LSV-7) is based in Hawaii.
