Yesterday evening it was decided to start the refloating at 06.00 this morning.
There should be on line video on the Telegraph (not working for me :-( )

DOCKWISE VANGUARD passed Cape Town, from Singapore for Firth of Forth, Scotland, where due 29/7. When the involvement of DOCKWISE VANGUARD was announced it was reported that Costa had taken an option on her for this summer as an alternative to a conventional tow.
Now that the decision has been made in favour of nearby Genoa for demolition, it seems likely that the DW will not be required. We will, however, miss the sight of the Tuscany president physically preventing her arrival (perhaps he has been on a Greenpeace training course).

RED WOLF (IMO 9361419), BUCCANEER (ex-SMIT-LLOYD 72, IMO 8015831), ARMONIA (antipollution, IMO 8830176) currently in attendance, as well as the ever-present VOE EARL (IMO 9639983). What else?
(later) also GARIBALDI (IMO 9314349), IEVOLI WHITE (IMO 9302853), AFON CEFNI (IMO 9258181) and workship VINCENZO COSENTINO (IMO 9452933)
Seems today as if conventional tow to Genoa is envisaged. See http://tinyurl.com/ohznjkh

Well she is floating, first bo, ticked to get her upright, 2nd box ticked to get her to float, now they just have to successfully tow her to the breakers. I wonder what the plan is if she become two akward to tow?
-
Great salvage, but what about the costs? Who is going to pay it? The EU, or the owner or the italean governement?
-
What has been happening for the last two days? Concordia has been dragged a little away from her resting place by the two small tugs, but does not visibly seem to have risen. As the small tugs are clearly pulling offshore (shown by their propwash), Concordia is either stuck or tied to the shore by ropes and in a position of equilibrium whilst trimming goes on.

@Holedriller: there is not a noticeable rise as it was initially only 2.2m (apparently now a little more). Now securely moored 30m off the platform while the starboard sponsons are lowered to their final positions and underwater cables and chains are fixed to join the sponsons.
Animated version at http://www.theparbucklingproject.com/media/3d_refloat/3d_refloat.mp4
Tschudi's BLIZZARD (IMO 8516952; 150tbp) has arrived off Giglio from Piombino.

Great tow out of the C.C. . no new tugs ,just old tugs? Costa cannot aford good tugs?
-
Dickt, final cost at end of scrapping estimated at 2 billion euros. Paid for by London Insurers + Costa.
-
Really starting to emerge from the depths now. Must be at least a metre higher in the water.

-
This morning The Parbuckling.com reported "Deck 5 has completely emerged and there are still about 2 meters for deck 4 to refloat. The wreck is stable in its position while operations to control ballast are performed. So far an average floating of about 6 meters has been reached through these operations."
All is being revealed?
-
Why are some of the sponsons much taller than others, the four corner ones being tallest of all. The upper part of them has always been above water level, so has not and cannot add any buoyancy. Also, why have they bothered to paint them white, they presumably are only going to be scrapped in a months time.

Anders Bjorkman has a very interesting and detailed take on the Costa Concordia incident. Click http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news8.htm (http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news8.htm) if you have the time to go through his entire commentary. His comments on the sponsons is near the end. He points to a resinking as a result of a vessel breakup soon after refloating and early into the towing.
In addition, Bjorkman places the massive amount of blame on the ship's owner - not the vessel's Master. He claims vessel was unfit to sail and the crew was under trained. Bjorkman states that "The Capsize was apparently caused by open watertight doors and progressive flooding of intact compartments followed by Sinking (a third incident ending at ~03.00 hrs) and loss of lives caused by down flooding of all hull compartments."
Worth taking the time to read!

Ooops! Check out this link http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news811.htm (http://heiwaco.tripod.com/news811.htm) for Bjorkman's comments on the sponsons.

I have read some of Anders Bj

I totally agree with you, but even so, he does make a few interesting points about the Costa Concordia incident (not raised elsewhere), as well as some interesting charts and graphics.

Yes, the wreck of the Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia is going to refloat. This re-floating operation expected to take six or seven days.Capacity of this cruise is 3200 (http://www.ship-technology.com/news/newsrefloating-operation-of-costa-concordia-begins-in-italy-4317998/) passengers and 1000 crew members.Good to see that Costa Concordia is starting again.
-
It is amazing with witch kind of a tugs this vessel will be towed?
-
I think AHTSs are best suited for the job.
-
When, and how will they go about removing the artificial seabed built as a platform for the liner during the salvage?
-
The Concordia will pass in front of the small town of Voltri to go inside the container port of Voltri. If you enlarge the picture on Google Earth you will see...
-
Still there! I thought she was going Tuesday.
Are the salvage team closing off and pumping out any compartments that are watertight now that the ship is raised, in order to add buoyancy.
Or are they just relying on the lift from the sponsons?

And she's gone!!!!
-
Interesting that they've put an AIS set on COSTA CONCORDIA herself - ITMCC as call-sign! MMSI 247359600
Tow from BLIZZARD and RESOLVE EARL, with VOE EARL and coastguard launch CP 273 close escorting CC.
Following are anti-pollution ARMONIA, big new coastguard patrol UBALDO DICIOTTI (CP 941), CP 286 and tug IEVOLI WHITE. Also POSEIDON (the Arpat research vessel) and Belgian-owned CDT FOURCAULT
All at a stately 2-2
-
For all the months I worked down there on the salvage I never actually thought I would see the day she disappeared under tow from the webcam / salvage site.
I think I am not the only one !
Hope she has a safe final voyage.
Cheers, Dan.

It seem that we are back to the "unoficial" thread.
This evening, now heading west to round Isla Pianosa and prepare for the "sail by" of the Corsican Coast.
Not wishing to be left out, after a leasurely lunch at Giglio, GARIBALDO and AFON CEFNI have now caught up.

Just looked at marinetraffic site and seems to be making a steady 1.7 kts.

Now met by French Navy's JASON (IMO 9320922) to make sure they don't miss the turn.
