Hi all. I would like to know if the Straight of Belle-Isle is used frequently as a shipping route. I will be working in Blanc Sablon for a period of six months and wondering if it is a good spot for shipspotting.
Bonjour

There is a regular ferry service to Blanc Sablon, and there are a few ships that use that route.

What was your sin to get you posted to Blanc Sablon? :'(

Ships that move gargo to the Artic from the Saint-Laurent harbours will use the Straight of Belle-Isle. The sceneries are beautifull overthere.

Well Steve, I guess you will find out if the shipspotting is good or not!
6 months? Does this mean we will not see you along the shore of the St Lawrence this coming summer?

Hi Steve. Blanc Sablon will not be as good as you had in st. lawrence river, especially this time of year. There is a fair amount of traffick later on when ice clears out around BELL ISLE & NORTH COAST OF NFLD. Quite a few bulkers & others use bellisle on runs to europe both coming & going to all ports along st lawrence & lakes & at times even some that go to eastern seaboard of us when weather on banks is bad around nfld. They don,t get to close to shore there like the river but you will be able to get a few inbound ones as north ones usually go closer to nfld coast. Believe it or not but a ship leaving say belldune heading for rotterdam will save time doing the north route instead of south coast of nfld at times. Also as stated you,ll pick up local supply ships & tankers heading north in late summer & fall. Hope this is of some help.

Steve, you may find people to play cricket if time is to slow >:(
