The Topic which was contributed to by Denis, Lexor, Magogman, and myself appears to have been accidentally deleted, there were several Spam advertising messages which were caught up in the Topic that caused the problem.

I can assure you that it was not intentional and I apologise for this, the Topic is still open for discussion.

Regards
Ken

Maybe its time for shipspotting to "acquire" yet another server?

I too received the same error and a couple of minutes later it was fine.
If you are so desperate that you can't wait a couple of minutes to try again, you should be thinking about how much you are willing to pay for the service.

Another funny thing: I upload one photo and it appears twice on the site?

I have experienced that too!   Grin

Here's another version that I saw today on ShipSpotting.com upon clicking on Forum:
"Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later."

I kept having this message for about 10 minutes.

However this doesn't seem to be a problem that is particular to ShipSpotting.com since I have seen this kind of error messages in other websites like MarineTraffic. Seems to be a common issue on websites with large image database.

You make a very good point Kelvin about paying for the service, I feel that it is generally overlooked that this website is absolutely free to all, it is a very large website containing countless photographs of ships, some good, some not so good, and a wealth of information is available to all should they need it via comments and pm messages and all this is there for all to see and use free of charge.

The Administrators also come free, they are all volunteers working in their free time to keep the website in good order, I shudder to think what this website would look like without their assistance.

I have already stated that this problem is being dealt with at this moment in time and I am given to understand it is tricky to deal with and is being done in a way that hopefully, apart from a few minor disconnections, will not involve a complete shutdown, I accept that it is irritating but it will be solved, so please be patient and understanding of what is being done on the website to keep it up and running for your pleasure and enjoyment.

Sorry if my comment was taken grasped with the wrong end of the stick, I am in no way complaining  - I've run a "few" forum's in my time that have also had SMF database issues Wink I haven't received the database error is a while now though Smiley

I appreciate this site is provided free of charge, with limited income. I use the images contained on this site ALOT when i'm 3D modeling Smiley I will admit however, I do sometimes take it for granted  Roll Eyes

So - I'd like to say a big
THANKYOU TO ALL THE CREW AND OFFICER'S OF SHIPSPOTTING.COM!

Well said Smithy166.

The owners AirNav also deserve our most grateful thanks, whatever commercial benefit they derive from our hobby site.

We also must congratulate founder Tomas Pinas for anticipating the time when the Internet would be as much about contact as content.  That gives us the opportunity to communicate with other shipping and photography enthusiasts - by uploading photos and supporting descriptions, making comments, and sending Private messages and emails.
