Hello,

I need some help to clear the fate of the former Petersen & Alpers tug "Johann Petersen". Here`s what I could come up with searching other sites:

JOHANN PETERSEN (2)
1967 - 1981
Petersen & Alpers GmbH & Co.KG - Hamburg
Launched 03-08-1967; delivered 30-11-1967 by Johann Oelkers K.G.- Hamburg (555)
30,66 x 27,61 x 8,51 x 4,12 x 3,81 m.
192 grt
D.I.J.P.
6724672 Lloyds Register
2x 4SA 8 cylinder Maschinenfabrik Augsburg/ Nürnberg type G.8V.23,5-33, 235x330 each connected to an AEG generator 550 kW-500 V each connected to an AEG electromotor 515 kW; 3 genera tors 75 kW/220 V; 1x 4SA 6 cylinder Maschinenfabrik Augsburg/Nürnberg type D.1246.M 118 bhp connected to a Huckepack generator 75 kW/220 V/50 Hz; Briddle winch Hatlapa-AEG; salvage-FiFi pump 350 m3/hr; Wieckhof towinghook; steerable Kort-nozzles.
2.200 bhp; 1.618 kW.
12,5 knots
25 tons BP
Newbuilding
Sold 06-11-1981 to E.Kroschnabel - Bremerhaven

In 1984 renamed SEALIFT 22 by Sealift G.m.b.H.- Wilhelmshaven.
In 1988 as SEALIFT 22 to J.Zwagerman International BV - Rotterdam.
In 1988 to C.& I. Holland BV - Port Vila.
In 1995 to unknown buyers

Nobody seems to know where the tug went after its last sale. You can still find it in some shipping registers but never ever with a current location. I`m in the hunt because this might be my last chance to get detail pictures of this kind of Oelkers-built tug since I`m currently drawing a modelers plan of the sistership "Michel Petersen"!

So I put some hope into posting here, maybe somebody knows something? Even the faintest hint might help, so please, please answer!

Wolfgang

PS. If you want to have a look just search for "Michel Petersen" in here and you`ll get a picture that gives you a good idea how "Johann Petersen" looked......

It's not hard to believe at all Wolfgang.

There are upwards of 90,000 ships of 100 gt and above in the Global merchant fleet. They are under no single registration or classification authority. Many small, old ships (such as your tug) simply drop off the radar because they are unclassed, registered in a FoC, or owned by individuals or small private companies operating in far-flung corners of the World.

There is no mandatory requirement FoCs to publish a list of vessels in their registry. There is no mandatory requirement for any owner to divulge the whereabouts and status of a privately-owned vessel of this size. Therefore it is no surprise that the whereabouts of this ship remain a mystery.

However, you might get lucky. Someone might spot it somewhere and provide you with an answer.

Good luck.
Phil

Hi Phil,

I`ll take your explanation as something positive because when I look at it that way there´s a fair chance that the old tug might still be around somewhere..... it took 3 years to find out about the fate of my Dad´s old coaster but in the end the members in here tracked her down as well- so I`ve still got hope! Grin

Thank you very much again,
Wolfgang
