Does anyone know why the sailing vessel KATHLEEN & MAY carries the name JERSEY (an island rather than a port) on her stern & lifebelts?
On the bow her name is displayed as KATHLEEN & MAY, on her stern is KATHLEEN & MAY of BIDEFORD. Her port of registry is Bideford according to displayed information so where does Jersey come into it?

She has been around a bit Bob, this from Wikipedia with several home ports but no mention of Jersey so I don't know where that fits in, but I am sure someone will.

Since time immemorial, vessels registered in the Channel Island of Jersey have carried the name of the island on the stern, rather than that of any of the ports on that island, such as Saint Helier. A modern equivalent is the Portuguese island of Madeira. Ships registered there do not carry the port of registry as Funchal - simply "Madeira".
