I stand corrected!! Official statements have now been released.

The Netherlands branch of Reederei Blue Star IS to be renamed Nedlloyd Ship Management. However, the German company is to retain the Blue Star name.

Several of the ships coming under its umbrella will thus be given names with the 'NEDLLOYD' prefix.

The renaming of the 5,468 teu P&O NEDLLOYD BARENTSZ to NEDLLOYD BARENTSZ is also correct, while the 2,980 teu P&O NEDLLOYD NINGBO is to become NEDLLOYD MUSCAT.

Incidentally, nine other ships prefixed in 'NEDLLOYD' were never renamed after the creation of P&O Nedlloyd in 1997, including Nedlloyd's seven hatchless ships (NEDLLOYD ASIA and NEDLLOYD HONG KONG series).

Sorry to have doubted the original posting on the subject, Clearly we have an insider at PONL here, but without knowing that at the time, it just didn't ring true.

With tail firmly between legs........... :-?

It would appear that the P&O Nedlloyd Taranaki is to be renamed Maersk Taranaki in Melbourne 4/12.

Interesting that this is a straight switch of prefixes.

This assumption was based from the ship tracking on the website www.ponl.com.

Hi Phil,

Your right Peter is an insider. He is one of the MO-1 sailing by P&O Nedlloyd.

I have seen that the PONL Wellington is to revert to her original name of CEC Star. Her charter to P&O Nedlloyd expires in June 2006.

Do you mean PONL Hunter Valley (originally Buxlink) IMO: 9235816 or the real PONL Yarra Valley, which was built as Wehr Oste (IMO: 9252993)?

Because this thread seems to handle only forthcoming PONL vessels´ renamings, the subject of this thread could be better as "PONL renamings" etc. Wink

I've just looked at the Maersk Sealand website. They show the following vessels coming to New Zealand in early 2006.
P&O Nedlloyd Carthago, Maersk Dabou, P&O Nedlloyd Cardigan,
P&O Nedlloyd Carolinas, Maersk Denton and Maersk Damascus.
Some of these seem to be 2005 newbuilds and may be replacing the large 4000 teu ships that call here at present, although I beleive the last two may be renamings for vessels already calling here.
