Ro-Ro cargo TOLLAN
« on: May 17, 2019, 10:58:01 AM »
I am looking for photos of the wreckage of Ro-Ro cargo TOLLAN (IMO 7815674) that capsized in the Lisbon harbour in 1980.

No trace of this vessel is to be found in the Shipspotting database.

The only photos I found can be seen below:

They have an historical value. Having this vessel covered also at the website would be a plus for the community, IMHO. Can anybody help?

Hi jdap!
The "Tollan" was part of a series of four Tackler-type RoRos, built from the Kasado shipyard in Kudamatsu. The Series consists of: "Tackler Arabia'' IMO 7800239, "Tajin'' IMO 7800241, "Tollan'' IMO 7815674 and "Tackler Dosinia'' IMO 7815686
Maybe it helps a bit,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Many thanks for the info. Everything helps, of course.

By the way, we are talking about a rather small cargo vessel here, with:

GT:   2800 t
DWT:   4628 t

Her casualty inside the Lisbon harbour was a most unusual event. It brought about the total loss of an almost brand new vessel. Hence my interest in this case.

Best regards,

Jose

Hi Derek,

Great detective work!

And your last link allowed me to see a rare photo of the vessel afloat, a sight never seen before:

Many thanks for the great research!

Hi Jose,

No problem I cannot take the credit as these were links passed to me by someone who has no Shipspotting.com account. I will let him know they were useful to you.

best regards
Derek

Hi Derek,

Again many thanks for all your help, and for relaying your friend's inputs through to SS Forum for my benefit.

With all the info in this thread, the Tollan rebus appears to be solved now.
