Marine Traffic
« on: February 14, 2019, 03:31:05 PM »
is it just me or had MT changed.   The old front page has along the top, 'live map, data, Community and solutions', and the map gave tracks with 2 or 3 miute timing marks.

Now the front page heading reads 'live map, explore, community and pricing'.  The ships tracks are in several colours and NO timing data is given.

Are we now in a process of MT starting to charge for movement data ??

anyone else notices  this ?

Hi Allan,

Yes, noticed this earlier when checking the "progress" of the Woolwich Ferry, different colour track and no times, why different colours at each end of the track? also points you to "voyage data" service.

Regards

Bob

I've also noticed some changes to their home page and the various drop-down screens. While I don't follow (track) ships per se, several years ago I subscribed only to their "gratis" plan (premium/pro, depending on number of approved uploads-which include various site features).

Unless you've uploaded a bunch of photos on MT site or are one of their contributors (AIS station operators), they've pretty much bundled all their services on a "pay-per-view" basis. However, their premium and pro plans are gratis if you meet certain upload requirements (400+ photos, etc. for premium and 2000+ photos, etc., for pro).
For example in the premium plan some of the features/on line services include the following......
- Status and basic vessel details
- Two vessel historical track
- Access to data received by terrestrial stations
- 30 day coastal voyage history
I don't qualify for their free pro plan, so not sure what additional services they would make available in that type of plan. Perhaps extended voyage data would be included....?

Should expect will need to pay to see own photos on MT soon?   :)
What they can expect is that many spotters will consider to stop support them since no clear MT future plans while their recent steps not promising much.
