Update: Abandoned ro-ro Modern Express being towed
« on: February 02, 2016, 05:00:52 PM »
Salvors succeeded today in getting a towline to the drifting ro-ro vessel Modern Express, which was threatening to run aground on the French Atlantic coast over the next 36 hours.

The maritime prefecture in Brest said this afternoon that the vessel was 44 km from the coast when Smit Salvage personnel succeeded in getting aboard the steeply inclined vessel and run a towline from it to the Spanish tug Centaurus.

Towing got under way shortly before midday but the prefecture warned that towline breaks were still very much a possibility.

Ive seen many timber cargoes over the years. I was wondering whether this is packaged lumber or logs, Does anyone have this detail. I assume its the former. Loading must have been interesting. Not very well secured though, if indeed a shift caused the list.

As i know, loading timber must be good stowage and special ship. Mostly handy size with extension on deck, so cargo can be secured. Before many times I ask crew who is have experince loading log at Tauranga port NZ and inform me that must be very careful to supervise loading ops..

Ok thanks - Thanks for all the great photos you take and add to the site. I notice that Balikpapan is second-largest city in East Kalimantan. The Balikpapan oil refinery seems to be very popular. It also seems to be a very pretty and clean area off of the Makassar Strait and Balikpapan Bay. I love to do research on different areas of the world. Thanks again - nice to meet you husni. Cheers
