TRIPLE-E @ LONDON GATEWAY
« on: February 25, 2015, 07:15:45 AM »
London Gateway tweeted last night that Triple-E MUNKEBO MAERSK due to arrive 01.20 Thursday 26th February. Confirmed on PLA website - ETA sunk 20.15 tonight from Felixstowe. ETD 15.00 26th.

Claimed will be the largest vessel ever on the Thames, which is probably correct.

There's some video footage of this new vessel on it's maiden call at Felixstowe on this site's video page now, along with the story, and a bit more about Maersk Line's major profit jum for 2014.

Still think it's an interesting move, Adrian, essentially because there's some kind of evidence offered each time a larger ship berths here. Some people connected with Felixstowe had been busily saying, "oh, they'll never get a Triple E to Gateway because they can't turn them," etc., etc.

I think that each time Gateway berths an very large ship, and records some box movement rates, they're building up a stronger case on their sales and marketing front; they've been offering the lowest rates in the UK, and sooner or later, they'll start getting serious business.

Not quite. Probably loading or unloading empties, Adrian.

Munkebo Maersk passed Southend inwards at about 6 this morning. She will be sailing soon as tugs are gathering around.

She was indeed in to load empties. Maersk wanted to load her right to the max height, which they were unable to do in Felixstowe.
