World's biggest box ship unveiled
« on: November 26, 2014, 09:40:55 AM »
SOUTH KOREA: CSCL Globe, the world's largest container ship, was named this week at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in a ceremony attended by dignitaries and 150 other guests.

The 183,800dwt vessel is the first of five 19,100teu box ships for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL).

At 400m in length, 58.6m in beam, and 30.5m in depth with a maximum draught of 16.0m, CSCL Globe falls within Maersk's 18,000teu 'Triple E' container ship class. Her newbuilding price is about $136.6M, according to SeaWeb data.
After being handed over to CSCL later this month CSCL Globe will be deployed on an Asia-Europe trade loop.

HHI said the new vessel will use 20% less fuel per teu than 10,000teu ships.

CSCL Globe is powered by a MAN B&W 12-cylinder (900 bore x 3260stroke) two-stroke main engine rated at a maximum of 69,720kW (94,791hp) at 84rpm. In service the continuous rating of the engine will be 59,262kW (80,573hp) using electronic controls to increase fuel efficiency by automatically controlling fuel consumption according to the ship's speed (up to 16kt) and sea conditions.

CSCL Globe will be joined into early 2015 by deliveries of four sister ships: CSCL Arctic Ocean, CSCL Atlantic Ocean, CSCL Indian Ocean, and CSCL Pacific Ocean (scheduled for delivery next month).
