Nieuwe Waterweg "New Waterway"?
« on: September 14, 2014, 08:42:08 PM »
Could anyone please tell me the best locations for taking photos of the passing ships at this location, especially vantage points with height/elevation.

Thanks.

At the end of the peninsula that divides the New Waterway and the Europoort, there is a "hill" with excellent parking space. Position of the sun is also rather good for making pictures during most of the day. Arriving vessels can be seen still far away at sea. But warning: many big containerships do not pass this point but stay on the "Maasvlakte". Driving to the entrance of the "Maasvlakte" is a long way, especially after the recent enlargements.

Hello John,

An other good place is near the 'old' southern breakwater/lighthouse (prinses Maxima weg).
There also the bigships to europoort/maasvlakte are passing.
Only problem is faraway from the living places.

In the morning time also the end of the Markweg (next to the pilot office) is a good place for the ships to Maasvlakte. (but no high point)

Much appreciated.

Any more info/pictures on the new viewing tower on the Landtong?

Cheers.

I'd probably just head out onto the pier at the Hoek. In fact, parking up as far as one can drive at the Hoek (there's some bar/restaurant where you can park), then wander down the 'causeway' towards the pier. It's a long walk, granted, and pretty arduous in the winter months, but you can get a decent vista looking into the Waterweg and out to sea, and of course over to Europoort.
Was that chat moribund? I don't think so.
