Even the Scheldt becomes a problem for ship photography !
« on: April 20, 2014, 08:02:12 AM »
Hi all,

I have heard of major works in the vicinity of Walsoorden, closing the access to a small jetty that was giving outstanding close views on ships. Does anyone know what they are doing there ? A Marina ? A restaurant ?

Will the jetty again be open to the public once the works are done, or it is again a case of seeing one of the best ship photos spots in Europe disappear as has already been the case in so many ports ????

Your infos will be most welcome

Charles

But in dutch.
It looks like the haven of Walsoorden will continue to be accessible during the works.
Don't know about the jetty.
I suppose by jetty you mean the breakwater north of the haven.

Hi Jeepee.

Well done. Thats exactly the reply I was looking for. I am talking about the small jetty downstream Walsoorden. According to the pictures, it will be maintained (good news) but the road will stop about 1 kilometre before. One will then either have to walk or have a foldable bicycle to go there. Not very convenient but at least it seems the place will continue to exist.

Question is : when will they re-open the area ? We might have to wait at least for 1 year. In the meantime we will have to go to the small port of Walsoorden. Not as good a place, but we'll have to do with it.

Many thanks for your help !

Charles

Hi Charles,

You're welcome.

I go now to Terneuzen.
There is a place downstream the last lock (the biggest, or if you prefer the one the most to the west). You can reach the place by car and stay in your car when the weather is bad.
The place is almost as good as the one near the jetty and you can also take pictures of the outgoing and ingoing traffic to Terneuzen and Ghent.

By the way, you have a French name.

Don't you have or have had a Volvo SUV registered in the UK ?
If yes we met, two years ago I think, on the jetty and a few months after in Terneuzen ?
I'm the French speaking Belgian...  :)
