Today ferry Nils Holgersson (IMO. 8703232) collided with ferry Urd (IMO. 7826855) while maneuvering in the port of Travemünde, Germany.
No one came to harm, but Urd suffered a 6 m2 whole in her port side, partly under the water line. Urd is said to have a slight list.
The reason for the collision is unknown...

Hi,

you'll find more photos on the local newspaper website "Lübecker Nachrichten" (also in german Grin)
http://www.ln-online.de/nachrichten/3434899/1

Radio station NDR just said, that mighty NILS HOLGERSSON can continue its schedule, but URD has taken some water.

Hi Jens,
the IMO Number you mention for the NILS HOLGERSSON belongs to the TOM SAWYER of TT LINE which is the previous NILS HOLGERSSON (until 1993). The correct IMO is 9217230.

Best regards,
Malte

Malte, thanks for the correction. I looked up "Nils Holgersson" here at Shipspotting.com. Unfortunately the first result was the former one. I didn't know she had a successor...

In the meantime, the "Nils Holgersson" has arrived at the Landskrona (S) shipyard for repairs. This should last until 9th of May.

German newspapers report that the cause of the accident may have been a mistake of the bridge crew. Seemingly, they forgot to set the pods from seagoing mode into harbour mode. In seagoing mode, the pods can only be turned at a 35 degree angle and reversing is technically impossible.

And that happened after an estimated number of 3.500 turning maneuvers in Travemuende alone made by this ship! Poor captain, must have a long discussion with his boss. Roll Eyes
